Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workshop

Sponsored by the Loran Smith Center, at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, Athens, GA

Starts Monday, August 21, 2017.  Please register by August 14th!

An 8 – week workshop, meeting Monday evenings from 6 – 8 p.m.; plus a Day of Mindfulness

Ancient wisdom and modern science are blended in this workshop, creating one of the most effective programs for healthy and happy living available today. Learn how to reduce your stress, change your relationship to physical or emotional pain, and cope better with everyday demands. Deepen your relationship with yourself, others, and your world. You will receive guided instruction in mindfulness meditation, body-scan, yoga and more. These practices lead to less stress – greater health and happiness, in your life. The workshop also includes how to be more mindful when communicating and explores ways to integrate mindfulness more fully into your life.  The day of mindfulness retreat is a time to deepen your mindfulness practices, held Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 9a.m. – 3p.m..

Held at the Healing Lodge next to the Loran Smith Center at 240 Talmadge Drive on the campus of Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center

There has been over thirty years of scientific research at medical centers all over the world. This research suggests that training in mindfulness through Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction workshops reduces stress, anxiety, and increases general well-being, health and happiness.

Who will benefit from this workshop

  • Mindfulness is proven to be effective in helping with: chronic, work, family, or financial stress; anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, GI distress, chronic illnesses, pain, insomnia, and more.
  • Participation is not limited to those who have or have survived cancer.
  • This workshop is offered to complement traditional medical and psychological treatments, not as a replacement.

Registration fee – $225.00 includes eight weeks of instruction, a day of mindfulness, workbook and handouts, and two CDs with guided mindfulness practices.

This MBSR workshop is based on Jon Kabat-Zinn’s MBSR program at the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts.

Included in the MBSR workshop: Day of Mindfulness Retreat – October 14, 2017, Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. For people with a mindfulness practice; a way to deepen or “renew” your meditation practices. A variety of guided mindfulness practices will be offered. Please bring your own lunch and plan to eat at the retreat. The retreat is held mostly in silence, allowing you to focus your attention inward. And you will have the support of the group. Cost: $45.00. Gentle Hatha Mindfulness Yoga Class

This yoga class is an on going class held at St. Gregory Episcopal Church (no affiliation necessary-open to all). Tuesdays from 5:30 pm – 7 pm. Only $10 per class, come when you can. For more information, please email or call details – mfhealy@bellsouth.net or 706-543-0162

are available for those living in or near Athens Georgia.  Includes workbook, individual instructions, 2 CDs with guided mindfulness practices – meditation, body scan, and yoga (or gentle stretching with awareness). Free Mindfulness Practice and Discussions

Mindfulness Practice Evening meets – from 5:30 – 6:30-p.m. on the second Friday, monthly.

Who: Everyone is welcome, whether you are just curious about mindfulness or have a regular practice, please join us.

Where: Offered through Loran Smith Center, Piedmont Athens Regional, this class meets in the Healing Lodge next to the Loran Smith Center, located at 240 Talmadge Dr., Athens, GA 30606 on the Piedmont Athens Regional campus. Free parking.  Directions: Take Prince Avenue away from downtown, turn left onto Talmadge Dr. just past the hospital. The Healing Lodge is on your right.

Talks and guided meditations are given by Mike Healy, Certified to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction by the University of Massachusetts, Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society.
