Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Workshop

Ancient wisdom and modern science are blended in this workshop, creating one of the most effective programs for healthy and happy living available today. Learn how to reduce your stress, change your relationship to physical or emotional pain, and cope better with everyday demands. Deepen your relationship with yourself, others, and your world. You will receive guided instruction in mindfulness meditation, body-scan, yoga and more. These practices lead to less stress – greater health and happiness, in your life. The workshop also includes how to be more mindful when communicating and explores ways to integrate mindfulness more fully into your life. A day of mindfulness retreat is included, a time to deepen your mindfulness practices. This MBSR workshop is based on Jon Kabat-Zinn’s MBSR program at the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts and the instructor is certified to teach MBSR by the UMass. School of Medicine, Center for Mindfulness.

The workshop is held at the Healing Lodge next to the Loran Smith Center at 240 Talmadge Drive, Athens, GA 30606, on the campus of Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center

Live, online individual sessions are available using email, Zoom. Includes workbook, individual instructions, guided mindfulness practices – meditation, body scan, and yoga (or gentle stretching with awareness). You do not have to have had or have cancer to participant in the MBSR workshop.

Mindfulness and Related Research

There has been over thirty years of scientific research at medical centers all over the world. The MBSR workshop is the “gold standard” for mindfulness studies. Research shows mindfulness reduces stress, anxiety, and increases general well-being, health and happiness.

  • Participation is not limited to those who have or have survived cancer.

  • This workshop is offered to complement traditional medical and psychological treatments, not as a replacement.

Mindfulness Practice Evenings

Mindfulness Practice Evening – that meets the second Friday of each month from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. We explore different aspects of mindfulness through discussions and practices. All are welcome – whether you are just curious about mindfulness and its benefits or have a regular practice. Dedicated Mindfulness Practitioners Group
The Dedicated Mindfulness Practitioners meet every Saturday, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., an opportunity to practice and discuss your mindfulness practice. This group practices meditation, often focusing on a selected topic, and discusses how their meditation experience. For more information contact Jasey Jones at JaseyJones@gmail.com.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is awareness that arises when you pay attention, on purpose, in the present moment, without judgment. Being fully present in the moment is the heart of this workshop. Learn practices that will enable you to be more present and more engaged in whatever you do. You will learn how to show up for your life in a new way. Mindfulness can be successfully learned and practiced by people of all ages and backgrounds. No prior experience is necessary.
